Gearbox Software co-founder Landon Montgomery has passed away

One of Gearbox Software’s founders, Landon Montgomery, has passed away. Montgomery worked at the studio until 2010. He has worked on many different game series including Half-Life, Halo and Borderlands.

according to a tweet from Gearbox, announcing Montgomery’s passing, the developer played a major role in the early stages of the company. Co-founder Randy Pitchford writes on Twitter that Montgomery’s contributions included the Opposing Force expansion for the original Half-Life and James Bond 007: Nightfire. The developer also worked on the first Halo game and the Brothers in Arms series.

Montgomery’s LinkedIn page states that he worked at Gearbox Software until 2010. His highest position there was chief operating officer. Pitchford writes that Montgomery left the company to focus on his family. He later worked at an advertising agency before joining Daybreak Game Company in 2016 as general manager. Since last November, he worked as a producer at Nvidia.
