Futuremark working on benchmark for virtual reality
Futuremark has started developing a benchmark for virtual reality hardware. The benchmark will measure, among other things, how a system performs, what the latency is of the images and how accurate the images are.
By accurate, Futuremark presumably means how exactly the VR system can track the user’s movements, although the company doesn’t say so explicitly. VRMark will be available for the first time later this year.
VRMark will be able to measure different types of content on a VR system, such as games, videos, photos and simulations. In addition, Futuremark will also offer manufacturers of VR glasses to test their devices in a laboratory environment in order to check claims.
Futuremark is the benchmark developer for both desktop operating systems and mobile OSes. It makes 3DMark and browser benchmark Peacekeeper, among others.
