Ford pauses production of electric F-150 truck in US after battery fire
Automaker Ford has halted production of the F-150 Lightning after a fire in the truck’s battery during an inspection. There are no known incidents of fire in the truck battery of customers who are already using the truck.
The fire occurred during an inspection outside the factory in the city of Dearborn, Ford told Motor Authority. While the investigation into the fire is ongoing, Ford is not making the truck for the time being. As a result, customers who have the truck on order may have to wait longer for their copy.
It is unknown how long the pause will last, but Ford says it has identified the cause of the problem with the batch of batteries. The investigation will continue until at least the end of next week, during which time production will remain at a standstill. Models that have already been produced may still be sold, the car manufacturer says.
The F-150 Lightning has been in production for about a year, and Ford has been selling the truck for a while. It is the electric version of Ford’s most important model for the American market. The F-150 has been one of the best-selling car models in the country for decades.
