An American who bought a box of Blizzard products on eBay found the 1998 StarCraft Gold Master Disc among the items. After some urging from Blizzard, he returned the disc to the studio, who gave him some goodies in gratitude.

The gold colored disc contains the text ‘StarCraft Gold Master Source Code’. On Reddit, user Khemist49 said he was not sure what to do with the find, after which other users urged him to release the content. Not long after, Blizzard’s legal team contacted him, requesting that the CD-ROM be given to the studio as it contains intellectual property and trade secrets.

Kotaku writes that the man sought legal advice on what to do with this, but in the end he chose eggs for his money and returned the Gold Master. Blizzard did not leave him empty handed and sent a goodie bag with Overwatch and $250 in credit for Blizzard’s online store. In addition, he was offered to visit Blizzcon, with Blizzard pledging to bear all costs and promising a drink with the top of the company.
