Dropbox feature lets users request files from non-users

Dropbox has presented a feature where users can send a request to people who don’t use Dropbox to put files in their Dropbox. The upload is done via a web page. The feature supports files up to 2GB.

Those who receive such a request will see in an email who requested which files the Dropbox users are requesting. He or she then opens a link from the e-mail to a web page, where the files can be selected from the computer via a window. Then the upload takes place.

The Dropbox user making the request will be given a folder called File Requests, which will contain the files if the other person uploaded them, Dropbox says. The maximum file size is 2GB, but if the recipient is running out of space, the upload will fail.

The feature works immediately for both Dropbox’s free Basic version and paid Pro users. Dropbox business customers will have to wait a little longer, as the feature won’t be available in the business version of the web storage service until sometime in the coming weeks.
