Camera website DPReview has been taken over by Gear Patrol. DPReview’s current editorial team can therefore continue the site. This means that the content on the website will not only remain available as an archive, but new articles will also appear.

The acquisition of DPReview by Gear Patrol was completed on Tuesday, reports Scott Everett, the manager of the camera website, Monday. According to Everett, the editorial staff of DPReview will continue to work as before. He says this is because Gear Patrol is “a strong supporter of DPReview’s core goals” and is also focused on “helping people find the best products for their needs.”

DPReview’s website functions remain the same and all old articles remain accessible to visitors. Well, the Terms and Conditions and the privacy policy amended. Everett recommends that users read that or delete their account. According to the policy, the copyright of user photos remains with the users and not with Gear Patrol. This does not apply to texts and other material.

At the end of March it was announced that the website would be closed from April 10. That message came after Amazon, the previous owner, pulled the plug on the platform. At the beginning of April it became clear that the website would remain online for longer and that the old articles would remain available as an archive. Everett also announced at the time that the site would no longer receive updates and would remain available in a read-only mode for a “limited period of time.”

DPReview is a large, English-language camera website with news, reviews and an extensive forum. The website appeared in 1998 and was owned by Amazon from 2007 until this year. Gear Patrol, which acquired DPReview, is a journalistic platform that focuses on a broad group of products and has 5.5 million monthly readers.
