Developers release bootloader Grub 2.00
After more than 10 years of development, the developers of the Grub bootloader have released version 2.00. The Grand Unified Bootloader is used by a large number of Linux distributions and is mainly used for multiboot.
Grub 2.00 is to replace the obsolete Grub Legacy and offers the user the possibility to start various operating systems from a menu. The bootloader, which has a modular design, supports a wide range of file and operating systems. For example, Grub 2.00 can handle exfat, squash4 and RomFS file systems, while the bootloader also has improved ehci and ahci drivers.
It is also possible to adjust the design of the boot menu, for example by using themes. New is the included starfield theme. Furthermore, Grub 2.00 can now also be used on Itanium and SGI mips systems.
The new version of Grub 2.00 has been tinkering for more than ten years, but has been used as the default boot loader by several popular Linux distributions for a number of years. For example, Canonical chose Grub with the release of Ubuntu 9.10. In addition, Grub can boot almost any operating system, including all Windows versions, various BSD variants and Mac OS X.
