Dell launches new Precision series mobile workstations. The 15.6″ model will be equipped with a full HD or UHD display with very thin bezels. All new workstations come with Intel Core or Xeon processors of the Skylake generation.

Dell’s new lineup of mobile workstations in the 3000, 5000 and 7000 series consists of laptops with 15.6″ and 17.3″ screens. According to the manufacturer, the new models have become lighter and more powerful. Dell uses aluminum for the housings, the back of the screens are made of carbon fiber.

Dell houses an Intel Core or mobile Xeon processor in the mobile workstations, in all cases these are Skylake chips with DDR4 support. Buyers can choose an AMD FirePro or Nvidia Quadro video card and it is possible to equip the mobile workstations with a touchscreen that can display one hundred percent of the Adobe RGB color space and a resolution of 3840×2160 pixels. The 17.3″ model will have a starting price of $1699, converted and including VAT, this amounts to approximately $1837. The prices of the 15.6″ versions start at $1199.

Like the Dell XPS 13 and the upcoming XPS 15, the 15.6″ model will have an Infinity Edge display. This is Dell’s marketing term for a display with very thin bezels. These thin bezels make the size of the Dell Precision 5510 with A seventeen percent decrease compared to its direct predecessor, while the screen size has remained the same: the housing is now comparable to that of a 14″ laptop. The 5510 weighs 1.78kg and is 1.7cm thick at its thickest point. Despite its compact size, the 5510 can accommodate 45-watt TDP CPUs, such as the Core i7-6820HQ, Core i5-6300HQ and the Xeon E3-1505M v5, according to PCWorld. There is also support for SSDs with nvme interface and m.2 form factor. The price starts at 1399 dollars.

In addition to the mobile workstations, Dell has announced two new entry-level workstations in the Precision Tower 3000 series. According to the manufacturer, it is the world’s smallest workstations with an SFF chassis. Like the laptops, the tower housings are equipped with a sixth-generation Intel Core or Xeon processor. A PCI Express SSD with m.2 form factor can be used and a Thunderbolt 2 plug-in card is available as an option. Prices start at $679.

When the new Dell Precision workstations will appear in the Benelux and at what prices is not yet known.
