Criminals invade Icann systems after targeted phishing attack
Criminals managed to penetrate several of Icann’s computer systems. As a result, Icann reset all passwords on his Centralized Zone Data System. The attackers entered by phishing employee passwords.
It was a targeted attack: the phishing emails appeared to come from Icann’s own domain, writes the organization that manages TLDs. As a result, several employees fell for it and the attackers got hold of their passwords. With that, they have infiltrated the Centralized Zone Data System and the Gac Wiki.
In the breach of the CZDS, the attackers stole data from users of that system, including encrypted passwords. Therefore, Icann reset all passwords. In addition, the organization has taken more undisclosed security measures after the hack. The hack took place in late November.
