The American network equipment manufacturer Cisco also wants to acquire the American Duo Security for an amount of 2.35 billion dollars, converted about 2 billion euros. The acquisition is pending regulatory approval.

Duo Security deals with access control and authentication of users, for example on the basis of two-step authentication. In its announcement, Cisco writes that it wants to include the Duo Security service in its own Identity Services Engine, for example. Duo CEO Dug Song wrote in a blog post that the companies will continue to operate independently until the acquisition is due in the first quarter of Cisco’s financial year 2019.

The security company has been around for eight years now and has 700 employees spread over various locations in the US and in London. The company is privately owned. In recent years, Cisco, which itself has more than 70,000 employees, has acquired more security companies. These included OpenDNS in 2015, CloudLock in 2016, and companies such as Sourcefire and Neohapsis.

Over the years, Duo Security has published several investigations, such as missing efi updates on macOS systems and flawed two-factor authentication at PayPal.
