The encrypted chat app Threema allows users to pay with cash. To do this, users must send an envelope with money. That is more expensive than via the Play Store.

Threema say that Android users can now pay with cash. Threema costs 5.99 euros in the Play Store; the app has always only been available for a fee on Android. The makers say that ‘paying with money is good, but paying with cash is even better’.

Users who want to pay Threema with cash must go to: the Threema Shop and indicate there that they want to pay anonymously. They are then given a license URL that is activated after users send the cash to the company.

The app is much more expensive this way; the amount is ’rounded up’ to ten euros. Threema only accepts notes and does not send money back, the makers say. It was also already possible to pay for the app with cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin.
