CD Projekt RED says it will potentially increase the size of savegames in Cyberpunk 2077. While the developer does not say how big the savegames can be, many users report that the data becomes corrupted if the file size exceeds 8MB.

CD Projekt RED says on GOG.com’s support page that it advises users to load an older file that works for a corrupt file and then pick up fewer items to keep file size within limits. According to Eurogamer, that file size can be a maximum of around 8MB.

The developer says the maximum file size may be increased in the future, but doesn’t commit. In addition, the developer notes that files that are now corrupted will not work even after an update that increases the maximum size. The problem would mainly affect the PC version of the game.

Cyberpunk 2077 came out a few weeks ago and the release didn’t go smoothly. Gamers complained about many bugs and poor performance. The lack of performance was particularly evident on the PS4 and Xbox One, leading Sony and Microsoft to decide to give gamers their money back if they wanted to. Several stores warn about the bugs in the game. CD Projekt RED promises to release several major updates in the coming months, which should fix the worst problems.
