Canada accuses the Chinese government of breaking into systems of the National Research Council, a research organization that is part of the Canadian government. China denies the allegations.

Canada has accused China of hacking for the first time, Re/code reports. The National Research Council is Canada’s premier research institution, collaborating with aircraft and train manufacturer Bombardier. It is not clear whether the attack was successful and whether any information was stolen from the research facility.

The attackers, allegedly sponsored by the Chinese government, are not known to have broken into other Canadian government agencies. Canada has raised the issue in talks with the Chinese foreign minister. China denies being involved in hacking, saying it is itself a victim of it. The United States has previously made similar allegations.
