Blizzard Entertainment appoints Johanna Faries as its new president

Blizzard Entertainment has appointed Johanna Faries as its new president. She was previously a high-ranking manager who managed the development of the Call of Duty games. She succeeds the recently departed President Mike Ybarra.

Faries joined Activision Blizzard in 2018 and worked on the esports branch of the Call of Duty franchise. In 2020, she became senior vice president of the division within the company responsible for Activision Blizzard’s various esports competitions. In April 2021, Faries changed roles again. This time she became general manager at the Call of Duty division.

Faries looks in a blog post also reflects on the recent layoffs at Activision Blizzard. Microsoft laid off 1,900 employees at Activision Blizzard, Xbox and ZeniMax at the end of January. Blizzard president Mike Ybarra also announced his departure at the time.
