EA and DICE have provided an overview of what free new content Battlefield V will receive between now and this coming fall. It concerns new game modes, maps and presumably also new armies. It looks like the US-Japan conflict will be added in the fall.

The news post shows that we are currently in the second chapter of the Battlefield V content, called Lightning Strikes. Coming Monday, March 25, the third chapter, Trial by Fire, will begin with Firestorm mode. New missions for the Combined Arms co-op PVE mode will also follow in April, the Mercury map located in Crete will be released in May and the Outpost mode will be released in June. All parts of the third chapter are further explained in a separate post.

DICE tells less about chapter four, Defying the Odds. In any case, it starts in June. New maps and modes are said to be coming, labeled Up Close and Personal, suggesting small-scale environments with an emphasis on infantry combat. There will also be a map called Marita, which is located in Greece, and a map that focuses on highly urbanized environments.

The fifth chapter of the game will follow in the fall. The developers deliberately don’t say much about it, but the name has already been announced: Awakening the Giant. The title probably refers to an alleged quote from Japanese General Yamamoto, the mastermind behind the surprise attack on the American Pearl Harbor. The attack was the starting signal for American participation in WW2. The fact that DICE continues to speak of conflicts on land, sea and in the air and that players are taken to a completely new battlefield, further strengthens the suspicion that it is about the battle between the US and Japan.
