The job market is tight, but it often doesn’t feel that way for starters. Where do you start, what suits you and how do you stand out? LinkedIn has done research into where the real opportunities lie for graduates in the Netherlands. And no, it’s not always the jobs that you first think about. Especially functions in AI, education, sales and tax services are considerably on the rise. In this article we list the fastest -growing starters’ courses – and you get practical tips to start your career with more self -confidence.

LinkedIn analyzed millions of starters’ courses

The LinkedIn research combines data from millions of users with new research among 1,000 Dutch people between the ages of 18 and 77. Before the analysis, the first full -time job after graduation (no internship or student job) was looked at, and which positions have grown the fastest in the Netherlands in recent years. The result: two top 5 lists, divided into education level (Bachelor and Master).

After your bachelor: these functions grow the fastest

When you will soon be done with your HBO or WO bachelor, these are the jobs in which you now have the best chance- and in which you can grow:

  • Auditor – Financial control and risk assessment remain essential.
  • Sales Manager-Sales talent is without prejudice to, especially in Tech and E-commerce.
  • Psychologist – Mental health receives more attention, also within organizations.
  • Marketing coordinator – online marketing, content and data are indispensable.
  • Pedagogical employee – The demand is growing rapidly in education and care.

These functions are partly in line with well -known courses, but also stand out for their width. Especially those who have social and analytical skills score high on employability.

After your master: AI and taxation in the lead

For graduates with a master’s degree, the job market offers opportunities in technology, education and legal services, among other things. This is the top 5:

  • Tax advisor – Fiscal experts are in both the public and private sector.
  • Primary school teacher – Education screams for competent, academically trained teachers.
  • AI engineer-Artificial intelligence transforms almost every sector.
  • Secretary – important in politics, governments and large organizations.
  • Legal assistant – digitizing the legal sector, but still needs people.

Especially the rise of the AI engineer catches the eye. This relatively new position is a clear signal that technology and data skills are increasingly determining how we work – also in sectors such as the government and financial services.

Gen Z doubts, “Does this job suit me?”

Applying as a starter is not only exciting, but also confusing. The research shows that many people (18–26 years old) struggle with three things:

  • Finding a job that really suits them (35%)
  • Convincing employers that they are suitable (27%)
  • Stand out among other applicants (26%)

This often leads to a postponement or choice stress. Happy gives LinkedIn’s career expert Laura van Horssen Four tips to lower those thresholds:

4 tips for starters on the job market

1. Let go perfectly. The perfect first course rarely exists. Try, discover and see every step as a learning experience. Also a job that is not completely “right” can unexpectedly yield a lot.

2. Look wider than your studies. Your diploma is only part of the story. Focuses on your skills and personal successes. What gives you energy? What did colleagues or internship supervisors thought good?

3. Activate your network. You will not find many jobs through a vacancy, but through people. Let friends, family and LinkedIn connections know that you are looking for-and ask for tips or a coffee.

4. Use Job Match. LinkedIn’s AI tool ‘Job Match’ shows immediately how well your profile fits a vacancy. This way you prevent spelling for hours on applications that do not lead to anything.

Conclusion: there are opportunities – but you have to see them

The data from LinkedIn shows that there are certainly starters’ courses, and that some functions grow faster than you would expect. Whether you dream of a career such as AI-engineer or get energy from teaching or advising: this is the time to see what really suits you.
