Atari has announced the name of its new retro game console that was announced months ago and was known as the Ataribox: the Atari VCS. The company also plans to present a prototype on 21 March during the Game Developers Conference 2018 (GDC).

VCS (Video Computer System) is a nod to the Atari 2600, which after its launch in 1977 was initially called Atari VCS. In 1983, when the Atari 5200 came on the market, the name was changed to Atari 2600.

That Atari with a new console is already known since the summer of 2017. In December presale would already begin, but that was postponed. The fact that the system is apparently still not ready for the launch is somewhat remarkable.

Atari has also still not disclosed anything about the games that you can play on. During the GDC only prototypes of the console, the ‘Classic Joystick’ and the ‘Modern Controller’ will be shown. Atari will also announce more about the start of the sale in April.
