Asus is going to ship Splashtop on every new motherboard
Asus will equip all its new motherboards with the Linux-based Splashtop, the company has announced. Initially, one million motherboards will be equipped with the mini-os.
At the introduction of its P45 line, it was already clear that Asus would deliver the P5Q Deluxe, P5Q-WS, P5Q3 Deluxe and P5Q-E models with the Splashtop operating system. The Taiwanese manufacturer refers to this application under the name ‘Express Gate’. The operating system boots within ten seconds and gives the user the option to use Firefox, Skype or an email client next. “Following user feedback, we plan to bring Express Gate to our entire portfolio of motherboards, starting with one million units per month,” Joe Hsieh, general manager of Asus’ motherboard division, said on Wednesday. know. According to him, consumers want to turn on their PC like any other device and Express Gate makes that possible.
In addition to the faster boot time, the Express Gate functionality saves energy and makes the operating system less vulnerable to malware. Splashtop annex Express Gate is developed by Devicevm and is based on the version 2.6 of the Linux kernel. Furthermore, Devicevm uses the Squashfs file system and Blackbox as a window manager for their software, which resides on the motherboard’s flash memory.
