Apple to fix MacBooks with ‘sticky’ keyboards

Apple has launched a repair program that gives owners of certain models of MacBooks the opportunity to have their keyboard repaired. Owners have complained of malfunctioning keyboards, or sticky keys.

The repair program is listed on Apple’s website, and on the appropriate webpage, users can see if their model qualifies for a free repair. It concerns a number of models of the MacBook and MacBook Pro that have been released in recent years.

According to Apple, there may be a number of problems with the keyboards. For example, it is possible that pressed characters do not appear on the screen, or appear several times. Also, the keys themselves can feel sticky, or be ‘inconsistent’ when pressed. Customers with problems can report to an Apple store, after which the keyboard will be repaired; this can be done by replacing a number of keys, or by installing a completely new keyboard in the laptop.

Last month, two users of the 2016 version of the MacBook Pro filed a lawsuit against Apple. According to the prosecutors, Apple knew about the problems before the laptop was released. When users with keyboard problems reported to Apple for warranty, in some cases the company refused to repair the keyboard, prosecutors said. Instead, sometimes between $400 and $700 would have been charged for repairs.
