Apple has released a stripped-down version of the Apple TV+ app for older LG TVs. The app only supports the Apple TV+ streaming service and does not support other content in the Apple TV app, such as iTunes movies and the Apple TV channels.

The app has appeared in the Content Store of several LG TVs from 2016 and 2017. Several sites noted that, including FlatpanelsHD. LG has not yet released a list of TV models with support for this app. LG previously confirmed on its website that the Apple TV + app would appear in 2021 “for various 2016 and 2017 models”.

With the Apple TV+ app, you can only watch movies and series from Apple’s own streaming service. All other content available in the “regular” Apple TV app, such as movies from the iTunes Store and the Apple TV channels, is not accessible through this stripped-down application.

The Apple TV app is currently available on Apple devices, and on recent smart TVs from brands such as Samsung, Sony, Philips and therefore LG. Android TV devices have also recently been able to run the streaming service.
