Apple has released a new version of the MacBook Pro today. It’s the successor to the 15-inch MacBook Pro and it’s the biggest update the MacBook has had in three years. The new model has a higher resolution and the screen has become slightly larger. Other improvements are a newly designed keyboard (with scissor mechanism!) And a better battery life.

Larger screen, new keyboard

The largest MacBook Pro goes from 15.4-inch to 16-inch. Still, the MacBook hardly gets any bigger, because the larger screen made Apple primarily possible by making the screen edges narrower. The screen has become slightly sharper: it has a higher resolution of 3072 × 1920 pixels, with a pixel density of 226 per inch (ppi). Its predecessor still had 2880 × 1800 pixels and 220 PPI. The brightness has been improved to 500 nits.

Furthermore, Apple distances itself from the criticized butterfly keyboard and returns to the traditional scissor mechanism, where the keys of the new “Magic Keyboard” have a spring travel of 1 mm. According to Apple, the keyboard offers “the best typing experience ever” in a MacBook.

With the new Magic Keyboard, the physical Escape key returns, instead of the software. Also, the coveted “inverted T” layout for the arrow keys is back and the MacBook has a Touch Bar with Touch ID. In addition, the Mac has six speakers, a better battery life (11 hours), Force Touch trackpad and the Apple T2 Security Chip. The 16-inch MacBook Pro contains the latest 6-core or 8-core processor of the 9th generation, which is more than twice as fast as the quad-core processor in the 15-inch MacBook Pro.

With the entry-level model, the SSD storage is doubled to 512 GB SSD storage. During configuration you can even opt for no less than 8 TB of storage – according to Apple the largest SSD in a MacBook ever. The memory is expandable up to 64 GB RAM

Price 16-inch MacBook Pro

The 16-inch MacBook Pro has a starting price of € 2,699 – making it as expensive as its predecessor. If you want to expand to the powerful 8-core processor, you pay at least € 3,199. Again you can choose from the space gray and silver hues. You can already order the MacBook on the website from Apple. It will then be delivered at the end of November. The 15-inch MacBook Pro has been removed from the range.
