Apple has released version 15.4.1 of iOS and iPadOS. Among other things, this update fixes an issue that could cause the batteries of iPhones and iPads to drain faster than expected. Apple is also making a security update and some other bug fixes.

According to Apple’s patch notes this battery drain was introduced in versions 15.4 of iOS and iPadOS, which were released two weeks ago. The bug allowed iPhone and iPad users’ batteries to “drain faster than expected.” It is not known how many people suffered from the battery problem.

Two accessibility bugs have also been patched in the new update. Apple has fixed an issue with Braille devices that could freeze before the update while navigating text or displaying a warning. A bug that could cause ‘Made for iPhone’ hearing aids to lose connection in certain apps is also being patched. There was also a bug that prevented the Flemish voice from being available for VoiceOver and spoken materials. That has also been resolved.

Further fixes the new update a security bug in AppleAVD. This allowed hackers to run arbitrary code with kernel privileges. Apple says there are indications that this bug is being actively exploited. It is therefore recommended to install the new iOS and iPadOS versions as soon as possible. You can do this in the settings of an iPhone or iPad, under ‘General’ and ‘Software update’. Apple has also released new versions of watchOS, tvOS and the HomePod software.
