Tomorrow Apple will unveil the new iPhone 13 series, the AirPods 3 and the Apple Watch Series 7 during the ‘California Streaming’ event. But Apple has something else in store for us, writes Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman. Namely: another event – and that in the very short term.

Second Apple Event 2021 this fall

Gurman says on his Twitter account that there will be “two events” – in response to a question about the release of the new MacBook Pro. According to him, the second event is about new Mac models, but also about new iPads. According to Gurman, the second event will take place sometime in the coming weeks, possibly even in September.

What to expect from this additional event?

As for the Macs, we mainly expect a new MacBook Pro in two sizes (14 and 16 inches). It probably has a new design with a relatively larger (miniLED) screen and thinner screen edges. The Pro would get a number of extra ports: think of HDMI and an SD card slot. MagSafe would also make its comeback. And last but not least: the MacBook Pro 2021 would receive an M1X chip, the successor to Apple’s first own M1 chip.

And then the iPads: there will probably be a cheap entry-level iPad. This iPad gets thinner, lighter and faster. Due to the limited availability of the current iPad 2020, the new iPad 2021 was already expected tomorrow. But apparently we have to wait a little longer.

The biggest changes are for the smallest iPad. The iPad mini 6 is likely to be a smaller version of the iPad Air. The mini gets a larger screen for the first time in its existence. It grows from 7.9 to at least 8.3 inches. In order to keep the device compact, the screen edges are very narrow. The home button is no longer available and Touch ID is incorporated in the button on top of the device.
