Android Auto gains the ability to summarize longer text messages or messages in busy group chats. Android Auto can suggest ‘relevant responses’, or, for example, adjust the destination in Maps or share the expected time of arrival.

Now when users want to listen to text messages in Android Auto, Android Auto reads the entire text message or multiple conversations in the group chat. This can take a long time for long messages or busy group chats. With the summary function, Android Auto according to Google the gist of the message again. This feature should come to Android Auto users from now on.

In the video below, Google only shows the summary function in collaboration with the Google Messages app; it is not clear whether the function also works with other chat services, such as WhatsApp or Telegram. Google says it uses artificial intelligence for the summary feature.

In addition to summarizing messages, Android Auto will soon also be able to suggest ‘more relevant responses’. The service can also suggest actions. Suppose in a conversation someone suggests going to a restaurant, Android Auto can, according to Google, suggest taking over the location of that restaurant for Google Maps. Android Auto can also propose to communicate the expected arrival time of the planned route, for example if the user is asked in a message when he or she will arrive. Android Auto can also suggest calling the person sending the message.

Finally, Android Auto will have the option to adopt the wallpaper and custom icons from Samsung Galaxy phones. It is not clear whether this option will also come to smartphones from other manufacturers.
