Analyst firm: Global gaming market is worth $184 billion this year

The global games market will reach $184 billion this year, Newzoo writes. The analyst firm believes this market will be worth $205.7 billion by 2026. China’s Tencent was the largest game publisher worldwide in the first half of 2023.

According to Newzoo the global games market has grown by 0.6 percent this year compared to last year. The console gaming market will be worth about $53.2 billion this year, up 1.9 percent from 2022, according to the analyst firm. As for the PC gaming market, Newzoo also sees an increase. That subcategory will see more than $40 billion in sales this year. According to Newzoo, this is 3.9 percent more than in 2022. The market for mobile games appears to be the largest; it will represent $90.4 billion in 2023, but was reportedly worth 1.06 percent more last year.

Newzoo also published a list of the largest game publishers of the first half of this year. The agency concluded that the top ten of these companies together control almost 30 percent of the market, or $54.4 billion. China’s Tencent had the largest turnover in the global gaming market during the first half of this year: $14.4 billion. According to Newzoo, if Activision Blizzard’s revenue is added to Microsoft’s, Microsoft will outperform Sony and become the second-largest game publisher during the first half of this year. Nintendo achieved revenues of approximately $3.1 billion during the first half of this year. According to Newzoo, this is 1.4 percent more than in the same period last year.
