AMD may be working on a refresh of Ryzen 9 5950X with a speed of 5GHz

Details have emerged of two AMD processors that are not yet available. This would include a model with sixteen cores and a clock speed of up to 5GHz. That is 100MHz more than the maximum speed of the current Ryzen 9 5950X.

It would be Vermeer desktop processors with a B2 stepping, writes Patrick Schur. The sixteen-core model has a higher clock speed than the current Ryzen 9 5950X, but the other processor is a hexacore at up to 4.6GHz. That’s equivalent to the existing Ryzen 5 5600X.

There have been rumors for some time about the arrival of Ryzen 5000XT variants that are slightly faster than the current Ryzen 5000X desktop processors. Over time, AMD also came up with XT variants with the Ryzen 3000 series, which were hardly faster in practice.

It is not yet clear whether the models with B2 stepping will be marketed by AMD as XT variants. A Ryzen 9 5950XT with a slightly higher clock speed would be expected, but not a Ryzen 5 5600XT with the same clock speed as the 5600X.

Schur has in the past often disclosed details about unannounced processors. For example, he published details of the Ryzen 9 5900 and Ryzen 7 5800 for OEMs before the official announcement.
