Alcatel presents water and dust resistant smartwatch and smartphone
At the IFA in Berlin, Alcatel announced a smartwatch that is resistant to dust and water in accordance with the ip67 certification. In addition, the electronics manufacturer showed various telephones, including a water- and dust-proof smartphone.
The Go Watch, as the smartwatch is called, can also show notifications displayed on a phone on the watch’s 1.22″ screen with 240 by 240 pixels. It concerns e-mails, text messages, calls and the weather forecast.The device runs proprietary software from Alcatel and is compatible with Android and iOS.The watch band and face can be exchanged for different colors, including blue, green, white and pink.
It is striking that the Go Watch offers a functionality to reflect emotions. To do this, the user has to press a button, after which the watch measures physical properties. It then records the data it receives through the gyroscope, heart rate sensor and accelerometer. The user can then select a theme that suits him or her. That theme shows the Go Watch again later when the emotions play again.
According to Alcatel, the Go Watch will last approximately two to five days with its battery with a capacity of 225mAh, depending on the use. A micro USB connection can be used for charging. The smartwatch will cost 99 euros, but a delivery date is not yet known.
In addition to the Go Watch, Alcatel also comes with a matching smartphone, which it calls the Go Play and will cost 199 euros. It is also water and dust resistant in accordance with the IP67 certification. In addition, the phone should be able to withstand a drop of up to one and a half meters.
The Go Play has a 5″ screen with 720p. Under the hood, the smartphone runs on a 1.2GHz quad-core processor, supplemented with 1GB of RAM. The storage is modest with 8GB, of which an estimated half is left for personal use. Nevertheless, the storage capacity can be expanded by means of a micro-SD card.
The Go Play will be available in eight colors, such as dark gray, dark red, pink, light green and orange. The smartphone can take pictures underwater with its 8-megapixel camera. Moreover, with the front camera of 5-megapixel, selfies can also be made under the water surface, for those who want it. Finally, the 2500mAh battery should last for 20 days in standby mode, 8.3 hours when making phone calls and 55 hours when listening to music.
Furthermore, Alcatel introduces several other phones in the Pop series. It concerns the Touch Pop 3, which has a 5.5 “screen and uses a quad-core processor clocked at 1.3 GHz. In addition, Alcatel offers a smaller brother, with a 5 “screen. Both phones are available in 3G and 4G versions and offer 1GB of RAM and 8GB of storage, expandable with a micro SD card.
And then there is the Pop Star, which also has a 5 “screen with 720p. What is striking about this device is that its physical properties can be tweaked. For example, the back can be replaced by one made of leather or fabric. The Pop Star runs on a quad-core processor, 8GB of storage and 1GB of ram and also has an 8-megapixel camera.
Finally, Alcatel introduced the Pop Up, which is slightly better with an octacore processor and 2GB of ram. The Pop Up has a 13-megapixel rear camera and an 8-megapixel front camera. The device has 16GB of internal memory. The battery offers a capacity of 2000mAh. Prices of the last two devices are not yet known. Nor is it clear when all the mentioned devices will be on the shelves.
