Activision has announced Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time. The game will be released on October 2 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. It is a new installment in the long-running series of 3D platform games.

Crash Bandicoot 4 picks up right after the end of part 3, which came out in 1998. The new game is being made by developer Toys for Bob, one of the programmers explains the game at the announcement in the SummerGameFest show on YouTube.

The title It’s About Time refers to the long time that no Crash Bandicoot game has been released, but according to the developer it is also about the content of the game. The game is literally about time. There are four Quantum Masks in the game with special abilities, one of which is the Time Mask. When Crash puts that mask on, he can slow down time to perform certain actions.

Another mask is the Gravity Mask, which allows Crash to walk on the ceiling or at the bottom of platforms. The properties of the other two masks have not yet been announced. Players have to look for the masks in the game world and can gradually unlock new properties.

In Crash Bandicoot 4, multiple characters are playable. Players can choose between Crash or his younger sister Coco at any time. The two have the same traits and play style. The game will also feature levels where players control Doctor Neo Cortex. He has a gun that turns enemies into platforms, giving those levels a completely different playstyle.

Activision will release Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time on October 2 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Other platforms are not mentioned in the trailer. The game is available as a pre-order in the download stores of Sony and Microsoft for 70 euros.
