Acer Working on Autonomous Driving Car with Taiwanese Manufacturer

Acer, together with a Taiwanese partner, has presented a concept car that can drive independently. Acer provides the necessary software, including systems with lidar, ultrasonic signals and digital map data.

The self-driving car was presented together with Yulon Motor, a Taiwanese car manufacturer, Digitimes reports. It concerns the Luxgen S3 EV+, which, according to the two companies, should be able to operate independently. In the classification of self-driving cars, level 4 is the level at which users no longer have to pay attention to traffic, because the car can drive completely independently in traffic. What Acer and Yulon Motor mean by ‘quasi-level 4’ is not entirely clear.

Acer supplies various software systems to allow the car to drive independently. For example, lidar and ultrasonic sound are used to determine the obstacles in the environment. There is also image recognition on board and digital map data. Artificial intelligence makes decisions based on all data.

For the time being, it is a concept car, so a lot of development is needed before the car is commercially available. Acer and Yulon Motor have also not yet announced anything about the market introduction.
