1TB Expansion Card for Xbox Series X and S retails for $ 220 in the web store
The Seagate 1TB Expansion Card for the Xbox Series X and S is listed in a large American webshop with a price of 220 dollars. Microsoft itself has not yet announced a price for the accessory. The external SSD is just as fast as the internal one.
There have been rumors that the storage expansion would cost $ 220, the price listing seems to confirm that. According to the webshop, the 1TB Expansion Card will be released on November 10, simultaneously with the new Xbox consoles. It is unclear whether that is really the case, Microsoft has not yet offered the card itself with the pre-orders of the consoles. Other accessories could already be ordered.
For now, the 1TB Expansion Card from Seagate is the only way to fully expand the storage of the Xbox Series X and S. It is an external SSD with a proprietary connection, which is just as fast as the internal SSD. It is not yet known whether and when other manufacturers will also come with plug-in SSDs for the Xbox consoles.
The price of 220 dollars, converted with VAT, is approximately 228 euros. That is not much more expensive than what a separate PCIe 4.0 SSD of 1TB costs. They are currently in the Pricewatch from around 185 euros. In contrast to Microsoft’s Xbox Series consoles, Sony’s PlayStation 5 can be expanded with regular M.2 SSDs, although these must be copies that meet certain requirements. Sony has not yet provided details on that.
It is possible to expand the storage of the next-gen consoles more cheaply by connecting an external USB HDD or SSD. However, that slower extra storage cannot be used for next-gen games. New games must be placed on the internal ssd, or on a storage expansion that is just as fast.
