YouTube has added new options to the menu to change the video quality of videos in the mobile app. Users who want to manually select a specific video resolution will now have to do so via the advanced settings.
YouTube is making the video quality adjustment changes to its apps for Android and iOS. The recommended mode is still the automatic adjustment of the quality ‘tailored to the situation’ of the user. In addition, there is the option Higher image quality, which uses more data, and Data Saver, for lower image quality. YouTube does not specify which resolutions both options offer.
The Video Quality Preferences allow users to select a default setting, for both use on mobile networks and over Wi-Fi. If you want to manually set the resolution, you will have to go to the advanced settings in the future and perform an extra action compared to the old situation.
YouTube started testing the simplified image quality choice last year and is now making the feature widely available.
