Xiaomi: Mi 5 smartphone will be available in mid-February
Xiaomi will launch the highly anticipated Mi 5 smartphone in stores in mid-February, shortly after the official announcement, which is scheduled for around February 8. Earlier, the company announced that it will use the high-end Snapdragon 820-soc for its new flagship.
Gizmochina reports this based on statements by Xiaomi co-founder Liwan Jiang. The intention is that the smartphone will be officially unveiled around February 8, after which it should be in stores a week later. Incidentally, it has not been announced whether it only concerns Chinese stores, or whether an international release is also planned. No further information has been released about the price.
Jiang recently announced that the Mi 5 would have Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 soc, after it was already suggested in rumors. The CEO also indicated that the official announcement would probably take place ‘after the Chinese New Year’, which falls on February 8 this year. However, Xiaomi had not yet given an exact release date.
At the end of last year, renders of the Xiaomi Mi 5 surfaced. According to rumors, the manufacturer opts for 4GB of ram and storage memory of 16GB or 64GB. Photos could be taken with a 16-megapixel camera on the back and an 8-megapixel camera on the front. The screen would have a diagonal of 5.2 “with a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels. There would also be USB-C, a fingerprint scanner and NFC.
