Xbox One SDK Leak May Open Way To Homebrew Software

A group that goes by the name H4LT has put the software development kit for the Xbox One online. The availability of the SDK may open the doors to homebrew software for the console.

According to the release group, the SDK, which runs on Windows 8, not only offers the possibility to develop homemade software for the Xbox One; interested parties could also study the console’s operating system.

Despite the leak of the SDK, self-written programs cannot yet be run on the Xbox One. So far there are no known exploits for Microsoft’s console and official software requires a developer to register with Microsoft. Nevertheless, the system files in the SDK may provide leads for hackers.

Both Microsoft’s Xbox and Xbox 360 consoles have been hacked. Both consoles were able to run homebrew software after a hack, as well as copied games.
