Samsung rolls out service for free Gear VR content

Samsung has introduced a new service for the Gear VR helmet that allows users to access new video content for free. The offer is still limited in the beginning, but should be gradually expanded.

This concerns both downloadable content and content that can be streamed, TechCrunch reports. Samsung promises daily videos and a comparison with YouTube is therefore made, because the video service also has repeat visitors. However, it is immediately noted that such an offer for novice owners of a Gear VR will not yet be available. The version that Samsung has released would be no more than a preview copy.

These are videos that can be viewed in 360 degrees and the offer is intended to be expanded consistently. Videos are supposed to last from one minute to a maximum of ten minutes.

Samsung itself recently announced that it is working on a 360-degree camera. This can be achieved by a combination of seventeen full-HD cameras. However, according to the company, this is an intermediate step. The 360-degree camera is still under development and the final product should appear at a later stage. It is still unclear when that will be.
