Users should be able to delete accounts in iOS and Mac apps from February

From January 31, Mac and iOS apps in which users can create an account must offer the option to delete this account within the same app. Otherwise, these apps can no longer be updated or newly added to the App Store.

The obligation to provide apps with account deletion features has been in the App Store Review Guideline since June. Apple will actually check this from January 31, the company says. Apps that do not comply with this will then no longer be able to submit their apps for review to the app store. In practice, this means that apps can no longer be updated and can no longer be added to the app store.

Being able to delete an account within an app only applies if the app offers the option to create an account. So if users can only create accounts via external platforms, they are not obliged to offer the delete function within the iOS app.

In addition, Apple indicates that it is only mandatory to be able to start the uninstall process within the app. Developers may therefore refer users to, for example, a website to delete the account there.
