Google gives Chromecast improved 5GHz reception for Wi-Fi, FCC documents show. The accessory also gets full Bluetooth support. It seems to be a small update compared to the current model.

According to Android Police, the FCC documents speak of a minor antenna change with a new Chromecast. This would increase the maximum gain of the antenna reception from 2.1 dBi to 4dBi. The hardware change is evidenced by a change to FCC documentation that appeared online as early as May.

It turned out that Google wanted to release a Chromecast model with type number A4RNC2-6A5B. The type number of the current version, from 2015, is A4RNC2-6A5. Google wants to add full bluetooth support via a software update, the documents already showed.

The 2015 Chromecast has support for bluetooth low energy, which is not compatible with the classic bluetooth basic rate and enhanced data rate protocols. The bluetooth 4.0 specification states that manufacturers can implement support for both bluetooth le and br/edr, for greater compatibility.
