Ubisoft announces new games in the Tom Clancy’s The Division franchise. The Division: Heartland, a free-to-play game for consoles, PC and cloud platforms, will be released sometime in 2021 or 2022. There will also be a separate game for smartphones.
Substantive details about Tom Clancy’s The Division: Heartland have not yet been announced. No images of the game have been shown yet. The free-to-play game is being made by Red Storm Entertainment, a studio that has previously been involved in the development of other The Division games, Ubisoft said.
Separately, a mobile The Division game will also be released, but when it will be released is not yet known and no title has been announced. Ubisoft wants to reach more players with the mobile version. So far, The Division games have reached 40 million unique players, according to the publisher.
You can earn a lot of money with free games. Activision-Blizzard’s sales, for example, rose sharply thanks to Call of Duty: Warzone and Call of Duty: Mobile. Such free games with in-game purchases are worth billions in revenue. Ubisoft has been looking for a similar success for some time. The company released the free battle royale game Hyper Scape last year, but that game failed to live up to expectations.
New content for The Division 2 at the end of this year
Ubisoft also shows a roadmap with more news about The Division. For example, The Division 2 will receive a major update at the end of this year with new content, including a new game mode and new methods to level up. Ubisoft Massive is working on that with Ubisoft Bucharest to support it. Details about this update will follow later. A book and a Netflix film by The Division are also planned.
