Tim Cook: lower revenue from iPhones is partly due to high price

The lower sales from iPhones at Apple are partly due to the higher price of the new models, especially in countries outside the United States. That says director Tim Cook in explanation of the quarterly figures that came out on Tuesday evening.

Apple no longer discloses how many iPhones the company has shipped, but iPhone sales dropped 15 percent from the same quarter a year earlier, it turned out Tuesday evening. In an explanation of the quarterly figures, director Tim Cook said that this is partly due to the position of the dollar. The price in the US is about the same, Cook says. “But the exchange rate made all the difference,” Cook told analysts.

That’s why in January, in countries where the price had become much higher due to the exchange rate, Apple lowered the price. This happened in China and Japan, for example. In addition to the price, according to Cook, it is also due to the fact that fewer and fewer providers offer devices with a discount in combination with a subscription. The cheaper replacement of the battery would also have been the reason for ‘millions of users’ not to buy a new iPhone. Apple went on to say that of the new models, the iPhone XR is the most popular, followed by the XS Max. The XS is the least popular of the new trio. The company gave no explanation for this.

Cook declined to answer questions about a possible upcoming video streaming service from Apple. “We have a multi-year deal with Oprah Winfrey. This time I’m not willing to discuss that further. We’ve hired good people and I’m super confident in them. They work very hard and we can talk about that later. to tell.” Cook did want to say how he sees the future of the TV market. According to him, many people are going to cancel their TV service and instead purchase various streaming services from various providers.
