Tesla shows the design and some functions of the Optimus Gen 2 in a teaser. The second generation of the humanoid robot prototype is, among other things, 10 kilograms lighter. The first version weighed 56 kilograms. According to Tesla, the new version can also run 30 percent faster.

The Optimus Gen 2 is according to a Tesla employee filmed completely practically for the teaser, without CGI. The video shows, among other things, how the Optimus Gen 2 moves an egg from one hand to the other. According to Elon Musk’s company, this is possible thanks to new pressure sensors in the robot’s fingers. The robot’s feet, balance and actuators are also said to have been improved. For the time being, Tesla does not provide any further technical details about the innovations in the Gen 2 version of Optimus.

So far this is a prototype and there is no indication yet of when a version of the Optimus Gen 2 will be shown in real life, or when a variant of the product will actually be released. During the initial announcement of the Optimus robot in 2022, Musk claimed that the final consumer version should cost less than $20,000. The humanoid robot must according to the Tesla website autonomously perform ‘unsafe, repetitive or boring tasks’.
