Tamron has announced the release period for the 70-180mm f/2.8 mirrorless lens from Sony. The lens, which is suitable for cameras with a full-frame sensor, should be released from mid-May.

The full name of the lens is Tamron 70-180 mm F/2.8 Di III VXD. It is a zoom lens with a nine-blade aperture and a maximum aperture of f/2.8 throughout the zoom range. At the front is a filter thread for 67mm filters and the weight is 810 grams. Tamron has sealed the housing against moisture. The minimum focus distance is 0.85m for the entire zoom range, although that can be reduced at 70mm to 0.27m when focusing manually.

The optical construction consists of nineteen elements in fourteen groups and the front lens element is provided with coatings to prevent reflections. There is also a fluorine coating on the glass against fingerprints and moisture. Tamron presents the lens as a complement to the previously released 17-28mm f/2.8 and 28-75 f/2.8 for Sony mirrorless cameras.

The 70-180 mm f/2.8 has an E-mount and is therefore suitable for Sony system cameras without a mirror. The product should be available from May 14, but Tamron indicates that that planning may be delayed by the corona crisis. The manufacturer has not yet announced an official euro price, although various sites previously mentioned a price of 1149 euros. In the US, the lens will cost $ 1199.
