Microsoft will stop production of its Surface 3 tablets in December this year. However, the company has not yet announced anything about a successor for the device. Production of the Band 2, the smart fitness bracelet, will also be halted at the end of the year.

A Microsoft representative confirmed the news to ZDNet. The news came to the editor’s attention after multiple reports of shortages of the tablet and smart fitness bracelet at US outlets. The same does not seem to be the case in the Pricewatch at the moment. However, that can only be said of the Surface 3, as the Band 2 has never been available in the Benelux.

Not only is there no successor to the fitness band and tablet from Microsoft, there is also no idea when these successors could be announced. ZDNet reports that, according to anonymous sources, Microsoft cannot agree internally whether a successor to the budget tablet would be a good idea. The Surface 3 has been available since May 2015 and has been on the market for more than a year now. However, the Band 2 was only released in October 2015 and has therefore been available for just over half a year now. By the time production stops, the smart fitness bracelet will have been available for just over a year. This could be because the product has a tendency to tear at the tire, but it seems that Microsoft has just solved this problem.
