Sony will end PlayStation Home in March 2015
Sony Computer Entertainment has announced that online platform PlayStation Home will go offline at the end of March 2015. The company will stop adding new content in November. Users will not be reimbursed for purchases already made.
PlayStation Home will come to an end on March 31, 2015, Sony announced Friday. The online platform, which appeared in December 2008, will receive a few free content packages prior to its closure. With this Sony wants to meet loyal users of the platform. The company will stop releasing new content on November 12, 2014. European users can download that content until December 3.
Social online gaming platform PlayStation Home launched on the PlayStation 3 in December 2008, and has attracted tens of millions of users in the following years, according to Sony, turning it into a vibrant online environment. With regard to the reason for the closure, Sony points out that ‘the landscape has shifted’, which the group probably means that platforms such as Home are outdated. The company will not reimburse user purchases. Also, there are no plans to continue or reboot PlayStation Home on the PlayStation 4.
