Sonos soundbar that costs $249 will be called Ray

The soundbar that Sonos is working on will be sold under the name Ray. That says The Verge, which previously released extensive specs and internal type names of the soundbar. With a price of 249 dollars, it should be Sonos’ cheapest soundbar.

The soundbar gets model number S36 and is known internally as the Fury. When the soundbar goes on sale on June 7, it will be sold as Ray, reports The Verge. The site relies on anonymous sources and internal documents.

The Ray is positioned lower than Sonos’ Arc and Beam soundbars. To keep the price down, the soundbar doesn’t get internal microphones and it lacks Dolby Atmos support and HDMI. Connection is via the optical cable. The soundbar also gets fewer drivers than the more expensive Sonos soundbars.

Users can use the Ray as a sole soundbar or as rear speakers in conjunction with an Arc or Beam. The Ray can then be placed vertically by means of a stand, so that the drivers on the sides of the soundbar are directed towards the ceiling. Thus, they would help with Atmos display.
