Download ZoneAlarm 2.1.43

Spread the love

It has been quiet for a while since the personal firewall ZoneAlarm 2.1.25 was released last spring. Yet ZoneLabs has definitely not done anything, because since that time we are already 8 versions further. Why am I complaining that it’s been quiet for a while? Well, those versions are on the release notes, but they’ve never been released publicly. Now has BetaNews managed to get their hands on ZoneAlarm 2.1.43. In this version a huge laundry list of improvements, namely:

  • This release fixes a crash on Windows 2000, which would produce a “PAGE_FAULT_IN_NON_PAGED_AREA” blue screen.
  • This release changes the default behavior of access rules in High security mode, so that any applications with “Ask” permission settings will be denied access if the ZoneAlarm user interface is not yet running (before logging in), or has been shut down. This change may require certain applications–in particular, services that start up at boot time–to be given explicit access permissions instead of “Ask” permissions in order for these services to perform properly.
  • This release fixes a bug in the previous FTP client support which could prevent FTP downloads from working.
  • This release hides the splash screen with OEM and paid versions.
  • This release fixes a bug which caused the firewall to block registration when Internet security was set to High.
  • This release provides enhanced support for OEM configuration options and fixes a crash which occurred when checking for configuration updates.
  • The help files have been significantly enhanced.
  • This release suppresses alerts for TCP packets that do not represent an attempt to connect. In general, while these packets might represent an attempt to scan a computer, they also can occur in many innocent circumstances, and therefore can be confusing. Note that although the alert is suppressed, all unauthorized packets will still be blocked, maintaining the stealthieness of the computer.
  • This release fixes incompatibilities with the just-released Windows 2000 Service Pack 1.
  • This version repairs a bug in the alert analyzer report interface that would obscure source and destination IP addresses in many cases.
  • This release opens FTP non-passive mode data reception to any server, permitting download from a load-balancing FTP server.
  • The installer automatically runs ZoneAlarm when installing a new configuration. When installing an upgrade, the system must be rebooted at the end of the installer.
  • This version works better with priority-queued DHCP servers, which might experience difficulting renewing a DHCP lease quickly.
  • A crash (GPF) was fixed in the Local Zone property dialog, that would prevent being able to set the local zone properly.
  • This release adds support for OEM configuration options
  • This release fixes a bug in configuration of programs, where adding a new program would not activate the rule on the program’s execution.
  • This release improves upon MailSafe’s ability to properly handle (including renaming and quarantining) multiple VBScript attachments received in the same e-mail.
  • This release fixes a bug on the Advanced Security->Local Zone Properties panel which caused garbled data to be displayed for “Other Computers” nets and zones.
