You can use Winmerge to compare different text files on the Windows platform. This allows you, for example, as a software developer to clearly see what has changed between different pieces of source code, while system administrators can, for example, compare the contents of log files. The program naturally includes the possibility to apply syntax highlighting, and the application can create patch files based on the discovered differences. An online manual in which you can read more about this program can be found at this page to be found. The developers released version 2.8.6 a few days ago and provided it with the following announcement:

About release 2.8.x:

This is a new WinMerge stable release which is recommended and replaces earlier 2.6.x versions. Compared to the 2.6.x releases, there are many improvements beneficial to the usage of WinMerge. Some areas of improvement include: Improved UTF-8 file detection and opening of binary files. Another significant improvement is the new localization system.
