Software Update: Wine 3.0-rc4

The fourth and most likely last release candidate of Wine version 3.0 has appeared. Wine is an open source implementation of the Windows API and allows you to run DOS and Windows programs on Linux, FreeBSD, and Solaris. A large group of developers contribute to Wine and it has been decided to release a new so-called development version every two weeks instead of waiting for a number of new functions to be ready. A stable edition is published a few times a year. The database with applications that work under Wine, with or without the help of minor adjustments, contains 25,093 titles at the time of writing. This release contains only bug fixesthe most important improvements since version 2.0 are listed below:

  • Direct3D 11 enabled by default on AMD and Intel GPUs.
  • AES encryption support on macOS.
  • Implementation of the task scheduler.
  • Registry export support in the reg.exe tool.
  • Progman DDE support.
  • OLE data cache improvements.
  • More event support in MSHTML.
  • Relay debugging improvements.
  • Various bug fixes.
