VideoLAN has one Security Advisory out the door reporting a problem in the CD Digital Audio and Video CD plug-ins that makes the computer vulnerable to outside access. This problem occurs in all versions from 0.7.0 to 0.8.6, which is why they have now released version 0.8.6a. VLC Media Player is an open source cross-platform media player that can play various audio, video and streaming formats without having to install the relevant codec first. Although the downloads are already on the ftp server to find, have not yet been officially announced on VideoLAN’s front page. There is, however, the following notice:
