Download Recuva 1.17.339

Piriform has released version 1.17.339 of Recuva. The name of the program is an alternative spelling for the English word ‘recover’, and that is exactly what the program does: it tries to recover deleted files on, for example, the hard disk or memory card of a digital camera or MP3 player. The program is free for both private and commercial use and works with all versions of Windows except Windows NT. For some time now, the standard download has been bundled with the Yahoo toolbar, which is also the case with Crap Cleaner, for example. Fortunately, as with Crap Cleaner, Piriform offers alternate builds to where the optional adware has been omitted. The changelog of this release mentions, among other things, reduced memory usage and the ability to recognize Microsoft Office 2007 documents:

Changes in version 1.17.339:

  • Reduced memory usage by 10%.
  • Added Office 2007 doc types to ‘Documents’ filter.
  • Added .cab and .url to deep scan.
  • Files with no name found during deep scan are now named using meta data. Works for the following file types: mp3, wma, wmv, rtf, url, doc, xls, ppt, vsd, tiff, jpg and png.
  • Added support for USB drives with a sector size of 2048 bytes.
  • Improvements to system info status.
  • Minor bug fixes.
