Slide may show details of five Intel Arc laptop GPUs

A slide has appeared online with details of five Intel Arc GPUs for laptops. These are variants of Intel’s DG2 GPU, in different configurations and with 4GB to 16GB of ram. Intel will release its Arc GPUs in the first quarter, but has itself given few details.

The slide shows four DG2 variants, of which the simplest configuration has two more versions. The top model would be a DG2 GPU with 512 execution units, combined with 16GB of vram at a speed of 16Gbit/s. According to previous rumors, the desktop variant of this GPU has to compete with Nvidia’s RTX 3070 and AMD’s RX 6700 XT. Nothing is known about the performance of the laptop variant; it could have a lower clock speed.

In addition to the top model, there are two lower-positioned variants with 384 and 256 eus and 12GB and 8GB vram respectively. Judging by the specifications, this also concerns relatively powerful laptop GPUs, which could find their way to gaming laptops.

The last two versions have 128 or 96 eu’s and have to make do with 4GB vram at 14Gbit/s. The memory bandwidth of these variants is also limited at 112GB/s. These variants presumably have to compete with Nvidia’s GeForce MX video cards. Such GPUs generally perform slightly better than the integrated GPUs of laptop processors, but do not offer much progress.

The slide is put online by Twitter user HXL, which posts a lot of information about GPUs. It’s not clear where the slide came from, but the data is consistent with confirmed information about the DG2 GPU and previous rumors.

Intel said at its CES keynote at the beginning of this year that it had started supplying Arc GPUs to system manufacturers, but the company has not released specifications about specific GPUs. The first systems with Arc GPUs should be released in the first quarter. For the time being, this seems to mainly concern laptops. In the long run, Arc video cards for desktops should also appear, but it is not yet known when they will be in the shops.
