It was previously unofficially announced that Windows Vista would be available in eight different versions later this year, but in a press release the software giant from Redmond has now let know that you will be able to choose from six different editions worldwide. Business users can choose between Windows Vista Business, which includes the new Aero graphical interface, integrated search and Tablet PC technology for handwriting recognition. Windows Vista Enterprise adds BitLocker Drive Encryption, Virtual PC Express and a subsystem to run Unix-based applications.

The home user who is not very demanding can be satisfied with Windows Vista Home Basic, which offers some novelties, including the renewed search function, the so-called Sidebar and functions for parental control. If you appreciate the Aero interface, an integrated search function throughout the operating system, Media Center functionality, handwriting recognition or integrated DVD burning capabilities, Windows Vista Home Premium will be happy. Finally, for the really demanding user, there is the so-called ‘full option’ package Windows Vista Ultimate, which offers the user access to all functions and possibilities of the various other editions. For less privileged regions, Microsoft will make Windows Vista Starter available, similar to Windows XP Starter Edition. With the exception of this cheaper version, all the different Vista systems will be available in both a 32bit and 64bit variant. Especially for the European market, Vista Home Basic N and Vista Business N are added to the six standard editions, consisting of the respective versions without Windows Media Player.
